Dachshund - Fiona - Small - Young - Female - Dog
Fiona is a young beagle/daschund mix lady, about 10-12 month old, and weighs 10 pounds. Pregnant, and close to term, she was dumped at a high kill shelter to give birth. Undoubtedly, the fate of both her and her soon to be family was uncertain and in serious peril. Sadly this, like countless other shelters, doesn?t have the facilities or ability to take on a pregnant dog, nursing mother, or young pups. Needless to say, that their environments are hardly ones that any pup would thrive in, another serious concern. Thus, Fiona would either be gassed while pregnant or given the chance to give birth, and then the shelter would euthanize both her and the puppies. That was her fate unless a rescue was willing to take her in. That's what Twenty Paws did and how she came to become a Twenty Paws dog. She is now in a temp. foster home until she has her babies and they are cleared to travel.
Please follow her journey with us as she becomes a loving mother and regains her health. Fiona and her babies will be available for adoption shortly. We are currently taking applications for fosters or adopters for her or the little ones. More pictures to come.

She was discovered to have a plethora of issues that were all caused by her horrifically neglected life. With her body was so infested and overrun with fleas, her body almost completely shut down. Poor Fiona was on the verge of requiring a blood transfusion. Needless to say, this one medical issue alone was enough for her to get a prompt reservation in the vet's quarantine unit. The vet rubbed her body with a flea killing super pill, and now she is flea free. However, that was only the beginning for this poor baby. The foster's observed symptoms were unrelated to the flea infestation she suffered. We found out that Fiona was also fighting for her life with an upper respiratory infection that could be DISTEMPTER, which was also complicated by a heart murmur. Now, there is no doubt that this angel MUST stay at the vet, in quarantine, and require the most diligent and tender care. Unfortunately, the story does not end here. Not only is Fiona fighting for her life with a URI/distemper and fleas transforming her into their personal playground, but she is also PREGNANT! After x-rays, she was confirmed to have at least 6 puppies! At the time of the exam, they looked okay and the vet said she is due to give birth within the next 2 weeks. This 10 month old puppy was about to have puppies of her own. However, her illness and devastatingly tragic life lead Fiona to continue on her path riddled with sorrow. Due to her weakened state and illness, her children were born 2 days after her admission to the vet. The puppies were so premature that 3 of the 7 she birthed were stillborn. The remaining 4 had a long and tremulous road ahead. Candidly, the vet admitted that their chances for survival were slim. Fiona's physical condition was so poor that the puppies did not have much, if any, fighting chance to live through this. Under such wretched circumstances, Fiona was the best mother she could be. Although confused and weak, she did her best to nurse and clean her offspring. She cuddled them and showered them with all the love she had to offer. Then tragedy struck again. Three days after giving birth, the remaining 4 puppies died. Upon this discovery, Fiona was found cuddling and cleaning the puppies. The desperation in her eyes was beyond palpable. Without actually knowing, she knew what transpired through the previous night. Once again, she was alone. Now, Fiona is fighting for her own life once again. This girl has the sweetest disposition and clearly yearns
